You might have heard that the average life span of a BMD is 7 years.  This is an
unfortunate statistic, but it doesn't have to be this way.  The BEST way you can
avoid health issues in your new Berner is to carefully research and choose a
reputable breeder.  Berners face many health challenges. They are prone for
orthopedic problems as are many large breed dogs.  Cancer and other genetic
diseases are also of concern for the BMD breed.  By carefully selecting your
puppy from a breeder that is breeding for longevity and temperment instead of
profit, you will largely increase the odds of having a healthy Berner.  Please take
